Fisheries are taking two routes: industrial high-volume fisheries and sustainable fisheries based on local production. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) says that global fisheries production has reached a new high of 235 million tonnes in 2024, driven largely by the rapid expansion of aquaculture in Asia, where farmed aquatic animals increased by 70 million tonnes.
